Mudchooks Beat Braidwood
[ Saturday, 26 May 2012 ]

The Bungendore Mudchooks enjoyed their second win this season with a 48-16 result against Braidwood Redbacks at Braidwood.

Playing against an under strength Redbacks, the Mudchooks showed a significant improvement in their teamwork, particularly in the forwards, to score eight tries to three and earn a bonus point for the win.

Seven of the Mudchook tries were scored by the forwards who were much more effective than they have been this season at the breakdown and were able to make significant distance up the field with a number of well controlled driving mauls. The backline also showed improvement in its coordination and backing up and is now starting to display the flare that is the trademark of the Mudchooks style of play.

Coach Ben Stevenson was very happy with the overall performance of the team and said the result showed how the largely new look team is starting to become more cohesive. He is now looking for improvement in defence and discipline at the breakdown.

A highlight of the game was that it was the 100th game played by foundation player “Dancing” Dave McDonald. Dave is the first Mudchook to reach this milestone and he celebrated it with an impressive performance of aggressive straight ball running.

Tymlock Fencing 3 points – Eddie Mitford-Burgess; Bungendore Rural Services 2 points – Adam Stevens; Royal Hotel 1 point – Dave McDonald; Bungendore Community Bank coach’s award – John Turner; Chicks’ Pick – Dave McDonald.

The Mudchooks’ next game will be a tough one against competition leaders Jindabyne Bushpigs at Jindabyne on 2 June, with a 2:30pm kick off.
