Mudchooks v Jindabyne
[ Saturday, 2 June 2012 ]
Despite playing well, the Bungendore Mudchooks still lost 21-27 against competition leaders Jindabyne Bushpigs at Jindabyne on 2 June.
The Bushpigs are the top team in the Monaro Second Division this season being undefeated, but the Mudchooks gave them their toughest contest yet, particularly in the second half of the match.
The first half was dominated by the Bushpigs with most of the game played deep inside the Mudchooks’ half. The Bushpigs scored three tries to nil in the first half and went into the break leading 20-0. The Bushpigs second try was scored from an intercept and this converted try ultimately meant the Mudchooks lost the game. However, the real difference between the two teams was the penalty count, with the Mudchooks giving away far too many penalties at the breakdown, which let the Bushpigs off the hook a number of times.
The Mudchooks changed their game plan for the second half and played with a great deal more aggression and purpose to score three tries to Jindabyne’s one try, including an exciting, length of the field try to Aaron Williams on full time. Aaron Williams was in great kicking form, converting all the Mudhooks’ tries, and the loss by less than seven points earned the Mudchooks a bonus competition point.
Tymlock Fencing 3 points – Eddie Mitford-Burgess; Bungendore Rural Services 2 points – John Turner; Royal Hotel 1 point – Scott Hancock; Bungendore Community Bank coach’s award – Steve Gerlach; Chicks’ Pick – Aaron Williams.
The Mudchooks’ next game will be against Crookwell at Bungendore on 16 June, with a 2:30pm kick off.
