Mudchooks' Long Weekend
[ Saturday, 9 June 2012 ]

Two Mudchooks players, “Dancing” Dave McDonald and Adam “Boggo” Stevens have achieved significant milestones in their rugby careers during the past couple of weeks.

Firstly, on 26 May, foundation player and Mudchook committee member Dave McDonald became the first player to play 100 games for the Mudchooks. Dave is a stalwart of the club and is a hard running outside back whose ability to knock over a tackling player is characteristic trade mark of his game. Unfortunately, Dave broke a bone in his hand during his 100th game, so he will be unable to play for the rest for the season.

The Monaro Second Division competition had a bye over the June long weekend, so the Mudchooks did not play, but five Bungendore players – Scott Bakos, Sandy Beggs, Adam Stevens, Josh Stevens and Aaron Williams - were selected in the Monaro Representative Team that played in the annual Brumbies Provincial Championships in Wagga over the weekend. The Monaro team won against the South Coast team and were defeated by the Southern Inland team.

During the games, the Brumbies Provincial Representative side was selected from the three participating teams and Adam Stevens was selected as a hooker in the squad. The Provincial Team will play the Australian Police Representative Team in a curtain raiser match to the Brumbies v Blues Super Rugby game, at Canberra Stadium on Saturday 14th of July.

The Mudchooks’ next game is against Crookwell at Bungendore on Saturday 16 June. The match is the annual Ladies Day game during which the Mudchooks’ players will wear special jumpers that will be auctioned off after the game with the funds raised donated this year to the Bungendore Public School P&C. The Ladies Day is a big part of the Bungendore Rugby Football Club’s annual social calendar and this year is supported by the Bungendore Community Bank and the Royal Hotel. All female fans of rugby union are invited to attend and enjoy pre-game food and drinks at the Royal Hotel from 1:30pm and continuing in a special purpose marquee at the ground during the game. Tickets for these festivities cost $25 and are available from Bungendore Cellars, Bungendore Chiropractic or at the door on the day.
