Mudchooks v Crookwell
[ Saturday, 16 June 2012 ]

The Mudchooks’ players dug deep to win a hard fought match 34-33 against Crookwell on 16 June.

The Mudchooks started with pace and aggression and scored their first try 6 minutes into the game. However, in what was to become the pattern of the game, the Crookwell boys hit back immediately and scored their first try four minutes later. From then on the game ebbed and flowed with each team struggling to get on top of the other. The Crookwell forwards were very strong at the breakdown and punished any mistakes that the Mudchooks made. However, the Mudchooks forwards answered every challenge put to them and the backs played exciting running rugby despite the wet and slippery conditions.

Both teams were able to score often with Crookwell scoring a total of five tries and the Mudchooks six tries. In the end, the Mudchooks scored the final try five minutes from full time and the conversion gave them a one point lead to win the match.

The match was the Annual Ladies’ day charity game and the Mudchooks played in special pink jumpers sponsored by the Bungendore Community Bank. These jumpers were auctioned after the match at the Royal Hotel and a total of $7,200 was raised for the Bungendore School P&C.
