Mudchooks v Taralga
[ Saturday, 23 June 2012 ]
The Mudchooks’ played a tough opposition, in a tough game, under tough conditions to lose 5-0 to Taralga at Taralga on 23 June. Compared to last week’s fast and entertaining game against Crookwell when eleven tries were scored, the match against Taralga was a dower affair that matched the conditions on the day of sodden ground and six degrees temperature.
Taralga showed why they deserve to be in second place on the competition ladder, with their well drilled forward pack driving forward with a number of well executed rolling mauls and their rock solid defence preventing the Mudchooks from scoring. The Mudchooks tried time and again to unleash their fast outside backs, but time and again the wet conditions and the Taralga defence thwarted their efforts. The only try of the match was scored by Taralga late in the second half, and this was reflection of the Mudchooks’ tenacious defence, including where they held up Taralga players over the try line on three occasions.
Finally, after seventy nine minutes of a rugby match that was reminiscent of an arm wrestle, the Mudchooks outside backs almost scored in the corner, but the wet ground and the Taralga cover defence combined to prevent a fairy tale ending of the match for the Bungendore team.
Tymlock Fencing 3 points – Jason Brodrick; Bungendore Rural Services 2 points – Simon Rolf; Royal Hotel 1 point – Adam Stevens; Bungendore Community Bank coach’s award – Scott Hancock; Chicks’ Pick – Sam Magro
The Mudchooks’ next game will be against Boorowa at Boorowa on 30 June, with a 2:30pm kick off.
