Mudchooks v Braidwood
[ Saturday, 7 July 2012 ]
The Bungendore Mudchooks and the Braidwood Redbacks played their third local derby of the 2012 season at Bungendore last weekend, which the Mudchooks won convincingly 39-5. In a fast and entertaining game played in glorious winter sunshine, the Mudchooks scored seven tries to the Redbacks’ one try to earn a valuable bonus competition point.
The Redbacks were under strength with a number of players unavailable due to sickness and injury, whereas the Mudchooks were able to field a full team and welcomed back long term club members Luke Payten and Eddie Zarb who have both been unavailable so far this season. Both players had a big impact on the game with Luke scoring three tries and Zarby playing his usual hard running attack and tough-as-teak defensive game.
New recruit Clancy Brentnall made his debut in rugby union for the Mudchooks and won the annual Goanna Wrestling Championship at the after match games night, and Steve Gerlach and James “Butters” Pryde each scored another try this week.
Tymlock Fencing 3 points – Luke Payten; Bungendore Rural Services 2 points – Ben Schouten; Royal Hotel 1 point – Adam Stevens; Bungendore Community Bank coach’s award – Eddie Mitford-Burgess; Chicks’ Pick – Luke Payten.
Next week the Monaro competition has a bye, so the Mudchooks will not be playing, but Mudchook front rower Adam Stevens, will be playing in the Southern Province representative team against the Australian Police team in a curtain raiser match before the Brumbies game in Canberra. The Mudchooks’ next game will be against Jindabyne at Jindabyne on 21 July, with a 2:30pm kick off.
