Mudchooks v Boorowa
[ Saturday, 13 April 2013 ]

The Mudchooks were unlucky to lose against Boorowa at Boorowa last weekend in the first game of the 2013 season. In a close match that saw the two teams continually overtaking one another, Boorowa was able to hold out a determined attack from the Mudchooks late in the game to win 21-19.

The Muddies team included six new players and it was very pleasing to see two of them featuring in the match awards. Mudchooks coach David McDonald was happy with his players’ performance and how they are quickly melding into a team that is showing a great team spirit. David is confident that once the players get used to one another and improve their coordination, the Mudchooks will be very competitive this season.

Team captain Eddie Mitford-Burgess lead courageously from the front, playing on after popping a shoulder joint and the Mudchooks backline looked very threatening when they ran with the ball. However, the Mudchooks let themselves down against a spirited Boorowa attack by giving away far too many offside penalties, which meant they starved themselves of possession.

Tymlock Fencing 3 points – Tim Moffitt; Royal Hotel 2 points – Adam Stevens; Bungendore Community Bank 1 point – Scott Hancock; Currandooley Pastoral Company coach’s award– Isaac Allen; Chicks’ Pick – Aaron Williams.

The Mudchooks’ next game will be the first home game of this season against Crookwell at Bungendore on 27 April. Crookwell knocked the Mudchooks out of the final series last season, so we are hoping that plenty of supporters come to the game to help cheer the Mudchooks to a win.
